Dan at Oleg's site, right next to the school.

Oleg (stooping behind Dan) is a colleague of Valentina's but specializes in Russian history of the Middle Ages. Oleg was looking for a 12th C. trading town on the route to Kiev, but had to first remove graves from the 17th C.

Each grave had to be carefully recorded, drawn and photographed, before the bones were tossed into boxes and any artifacts (generally consisting of jewelry and coins) taken by the archaeologists for study.

The gravesite was so dense Oleg and his crew never made it to the trading center.

Also pictured are Alessya, an editor of an art publication in Minsk, and Glib, Oleg's 12-year-old son.
