Snyadin, Belarus

Removing the first layer of dirt from the grid. The entire grid, measuring 14 meters x 12 meters was neatly divided into smaller grids of 2 meters x 2 meters; seven 2m x 2m grids across and six back.

When artifacts were found, they were placed into plastic bags marked with the specific location by grid and layer.

This top layer was sifted loosely by hand.

Valentina Sergevna Vyargi, the archeologist in charge of the excavation, is to the right of the photo, in blue. Almost everyone pictured here is a Russian crew member.
